ROKU Prints is a small poster studio in Amsterdam.
It started with one sentence. It's only 20 minutes a day. The kind of thing you tell yourself to get out the door, and then it turns out to be true about almost everything: the running, the language you keep meaning to learn, the thing you keep not starting.
I'm Robert Kuipers, a cinematographer. I spend my working life framing things: deciding what belongs in the picture and what doesn't. A poster is the same job with the volume turned up. One idea, a lot of space around it, nothing that isn't earning its place.
ROKU is Japanese for six. It is also the front of my own name, RObert KUipers. The small drawn 6 in the corner of every print is the signature. If it's there, I made it.
Every print is made to order. When you buy one, it is produced at the print studio closest to you on thick premium matte paper and sent straight to your door. Nothing sits in a warehouse, nothing gets thrown away, and the parcel travels a short distance instead of halfway around the world. It also means your poster is genuinely printed for you.
Frames in the photographs are there to show scale and mood. Prints are sold unframed.
